WEEK 5 FYP

Objectives   : o To study the details about child safety harness
o To know the history for the child safety harness
Activities     : For week 5, i do some research about safety harness. I have learned about the child safety harness definition, and the previous work about this child safety harness. I have to collect the data about the safety harness for child because my FYP idea is to upgraded the existing child safety harness to wireless child safety harness with tracker.
Analysis      : The details of traditional child safety harness are shown above:

 DEFINITION & PREVIOUS WORK:

Definition Of Child Safety Harness
A child harness is a safety restraint for walking with children. The device is mostly used with toddlers and children of preschool age, and typically consists of a shoulder harness with a lead secured in the back, either directly or by means of a hook. When the device is used, a child wears the harness and a parent or a guardian holds the end of the lead or attaches it to their wrist. This allows the child relative freedom of movement in comparison to being seated in a stroller, carried by the adult (with or without a child carrier), or being held by the hand. At the same time, the child harness prevents child separation from the adult by the way of the child running off in a crowded or dangerous area. There exists a difference of opinion on the use of child harnesses. Those in favor argue for the benefit of enhanced safety, and increased freedom of movement compared to hand-holding or confinement of children to strollers. Those opposed to their use prefer restraining children through hand-holding, and point out that harnesses prevent children from learning that if they act up or try to run away they will not get to go places. The child safety argument has been winning over in recent years and the use of the safety harness has increased.

Child Safety Harness Previous Work
Many parents asked for a security device which could get them "peace of mind". Since the 1990s, many manufacturers worked on a more human harness for kids. Such manufacturers as Mother care or Boots in United kingdom, Safety First or DANDee in the United States and many others produced many models varying in texture, colours, and width which varies from 15cm to a maximum of 60cm to 80cm. More and more, harnesses appear to be light weight and extremely resistant at the same time. They are made mainly in England and can be found on some specialized internet stores. They can often be bought at the entrance of some amusement parks. Because many parents are reluctant to leash their children, a new device is coming to be on sale more and more. The reason why a parent will use a harness is for helping the child to walk or for restraining the moves of the child. By way of consequence, a harness needs to be linked to a solid rope which will be clipped to the harness buckles. The terms used to name this rope are varied and different from a place to another. We can classify them in two broad categories. A rope for helping babies of a year to make their first steps. The appropriate term is leading Strings. A rope for restraining movements of a child or used as a security device when in crowd, on chair or in a pram, or stroller. The words reins, leash, tethers or lead are the appropriated terms here.
